Do you have skills and knowledge that you would like to share with our faculty, post-doc and graduate student teachers and staff? We are looking for dedicated teachers with a record of excellence to serve on our team. Each appointment comes with a stipend. A year-long commitment is preferred.

 

> The League of Extraordinary Teachers

The UA Teaching Academy’s League of Extraordinary Teachers supports the goal of providing professional development opportunities for educators. Through the use of dedicated teams, the League supports each area of the Academy’s focus. Team members may be invited back to participate for multiple years.

> Observations and Assessment Team

The Observations and Assessment Team manages teaching observations and assessments. Team members will have a demonstrated excellence in teaching and experience with assessment and evaluation. Team members will:

  • Work with directors to manage and conduct teaching observations and assessments
  • Develop a procedure and rubric for evaluations
  • Carry out multiple observations for an instructor if needed
  • Review instructor materials
  • Provide feedback to the instructor
  • Coordinate with the Consulting Team if remediation is needed
> Events Team

The Events Team consists of faculty who are involved in faculty development offerings for the broad UA community. They will have experience in event planning. Team members will:

  • Work with the UATA directors to identify campus needs and to create programming and organize lectures, workshops, seminars and/or book clubs
  • Manage and facilitate events and other faculty development opportunities
> Consulting Team

The Consulting Team draws on its teaching expertise to consult with and advise instructors about teaching matters. Team members will have a demonstrated excellence in teaching and be available for regular consulting. They will:

  • Provide tips and techniques for classroom management
  • Contribute course materials and/or resources
  • Offer guidance on teaching techniques/styles/activities
  • Work with new instructors to develop courses
  • Develop integration plans for instructors making changes
  • Develop remediation plans for instructors based on evaluation feedback
> Innovation Lab Team

The Innovation Lab Team holds regular office hours in the Innovation Lab and consults with colleges and departments to determine additional technology needs. Team members will have experience in teaching with technology. Team members will:

  • Be present regularly in the Innovation Lab
  • Be familiar with the UATA website and other campus resources
  • Identify and acquire new teaching techniques and technologies
  • Develop expertise on new teaching techniques and technologies
  • Train others on new teaching techniques and technologies
> Internal Grants Team

The Internal Grants Team is responsible for developing and managing the internal teaching grants process. Team members will have a demonstrated excellence in teaching. They will:

  • Work with UATA directors to identify grant topics based on need and requests
  • Develop RFP and application guidelines
  • Solicit applications
  • Review applications
  • Select winners
  • Post award follow-ups
> External Grants Team

The External Grants Team is responsible for supporting faculty who are seeking education research grants outside of The University of Alabama. Team members will have a demonstrated excellence in teaching and experience with locating and securing external grants, preferably as a PI. They will:

  • Work with UATA directors to identify potential funders and match with faculty
  • Work with faculty who have found funders and need pedagogical support/expertise
  • Serve as PI/co-PI if appropriate
  • Serve as a consultant/evaluator if appropriate
  • Meet with PIs and offer advice
  • Review grant narratives and offer advice
  • Participate in writing if appropriate
