• Generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) is a computer-based technology that creates a variety of data — such as pictures, videos, music or words — that look or sound like they were created by a person. At The University of Alabama, faculty have expressed interest in exploring and applying generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT, DALL.E, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion and Codex) to collaborative teaching and learning. UA’s Office for Academic Affairs’ Guidelines on Using Generative AI Tools document describes the functions and limitations of these tools and offers guidelines to faculty on using these tools in the classroom as they continue to evolve.
  • The Artificial Intelligence Teaching Enhancement Initiative (AITEI) is an initiative by UA professors to provide guidance, support and resources for the use of AI in the classroom.
  • UA is part of the SEC Artificial Intelligence Consortium, a collaboration among SEC universities to share educational resources and best practices for the use of AI tools in the classroom, in research and beyond.
  • The MLA-CCCC Joint Task Force on Writing and AI provides educators with additional information and a forum for discussion.
